The schedule for the 2024 World Cup will be revealed on Friday by the International Cricket Council. This will be the first event held in a new format, featuring 20 teams instead of just 16. The USA and the West Indies are ranked first and second respectively for the 2024 tournament as hosts. The remaining ten teams were then decided by their performances in the 2022 edition. The ICC T20I rankings cutoff on November 14. It indicates that berths for the 2024 T20 World Cup have been awarded to the teams that placed in the top four of the two Super 12 groups at the last T20 World Cup in Australia. Afghanistan and Bangladesh were the next-best teams in the ICC rankings prior to the November 14 deadline. They were also qualified.
The tournament’s move away from a global qualifier and towards a focus on regional qualification tournaments is another significant change to the new model. Two qualifying berths were awarded to each of Africa, Asia, and Europe. While the Americas and East Asia and Pacific each received one spot. Using this approach, the teams from Ireland, Namibia, Canada, Scotland, Papua New Guinea, Oman, Uganda, and Nepal have qualified.
Under the new model, there will be two group stages involving the 20 teams and then the semi-finals. The previous format, which was in use until 2022, had a qualification stage with associate and lower rated countries before a Super 12 stage and then the knockouts. The teams will be split up into five groups, each consisting of four teams. Teams who place first and second in each of these groups advance to the Super 8s, where they will be split into two groups of four players each. Teams who place first and second advance to the semi-finals.
India has reportedly been put into Group A, which also includes Pakistan, Ireland, the USA, and Canada. All of their group stage matches will take place in the United State of America. This information has not yet received any formal confirmation.
The teams’ methods of qualification
Teams that qualified for the event automatically included the eight best teams from the 2022 competition, which included the semi-finalists and the top two teams from each group. As the hosts, the USA and the West Indies also automatically qualified. As the two best-placed teams in the ICC rankings outside of the already-qualified teams, Afghanistan and Bangladesh were awarded the final two seeds in the 12-team tournament. Tournaments for continental/regional qualification determined the remaining eight berths. There are qualifying slots available for Africa, Asia, and Europe, plus one spot each for the Americas and East Asia and the Pacific.

Advancement to the Super 8 stage is secured by the top two teams from each initial group. Leading to the formation of two additional groups, each comprising four teams.
