Bangladesh premier league is a T20 professionals league. It is organize by BPL governing council. Bangladesh premier league is the 16th most attended premier league overall in the world. Different teams are participate in this league. Bangladesh premier league is consider the most watching league in cricket history. This league is start from 2011 by Bangladesh cricket board. The first season was held in February 2012.
History
The Bangladesh Cricket Board plans to start a franchise cricket league in Bengal where world-class cricketers are showing their talents. For this purpose, the Bangladesh Cricket Board entered year 6 with 350 core deals with the franchises in the sports group. For established franchise league in Bangladesh. After that different tournaments are going to be schedule in Bangladesh. In the starting years this league has found by only 6 franchises and 13 companies become involve.
2012 First edition
The first edition of this league starts on 09 February 2012 with its very nice and lavish opening ceremony. The opening ceremony is in Sharjah National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. Where the first match is between Sylhet Royals and Barisal Burners. And the first final game is between Dhaka Gladiators and Barisal Burners. Where the Dhaka gladiators became the first winner of the Bangladesh primer league. The starting matches of the Bangladesh primer League are in the National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Bangladesh.
2013 second edition
The 2nd edition of the Bangladesh Primer League started in 2013. Another team becomes part of this league which is Rangpur Riders. In the 2013 Bangladesh Primer League again the Dhaka Gladiators became the champion and they beat Chittagong Kings in the final. The 2nd edition matches are also play in the National Stadium Dhaka. And some matches are play at MA Aziz Stadium. The shocking news of the 2013 Premier League is that all 13 franchises were suspend by the BPL governing management due to violations of the laws of the cricket league. But the owner of Dhaka Gladiators was suspend to a lifetime from league cricket in Bangladesh.
2015 third edition
In 2014, the Bangladesh Primer League was not held due to the 2013 match-fixing scandal. In 2015, every match was played again, drawing enormous crowds and teams. The outcomes of this league were changed in 2015; a new team, the Comilla Victorians, emerged victorious. Which is leading up to the 2016 -17 Bangladesh premier league edition. This year the teams are only seven because of the Dhaka Gladiators.
2016 fourth edition
The fourth edition of the Bangladesh primer League is again play between seven teams. In the end, the Dhaka Dynamites team defeated the Rajashai Kings team to win the event a third time.
2017 Fifth edition
In 2017 and 2018 the Bangladesh Primer League became the most-watched cricket league in world cricket. where a new Sylhet sixer moniker is given to the Sylhet franchise. Matches in 2017–18 were held in various Bangladeshi venues, including the host Sylhet International Stadium.
2019 Fifth edition
The Rajshahi Royals have won the seventh edition of the championship in 2019. The BCB president said during the 2019 Bangladesh Premier League that all of the teams would be eliminated due to certain adjustments. BCB took the charge of the Bengal franchise cricket tournaments and all the matches are play under the BCB.
THE 8TH edition 2022
THE 8TH edition of Bangladesh Primer League is start on 21-March 2022. In December 2021 all the 6th teams are announced for the franchise league. This year Comilla Victorians also return after one year of break.
the 9th edition
The schedule for the ninth season was set for January 6, 2023, through February 16, 2023. BCB also opted to augment the number of teams to 7 and to vend the franchise privileges for 3 years from this season onward.
BCB unveiled the roster of franchise proprietors in September 2022, with five of the prior six franchises preserving ownership and the resurgence of Rangpur Riders after two seasons. On 24 December 2022, BCB disclose the schedule for this season with two matches to be contest daily in the group stage and allocating reserve days for all the knockout matches.
To win their second straight and overall fourth title, Comilla Victorians defeated Sylhet Strikers by 7 wickets in the decisive match.
2024 edition
At a corporate level, the Bangladesh Premier League regards itself as a consortium constituted of and funded by its member teams. All revenue generated through television rights, licensing agreements, sponsorship, ticket sales, and other channels is accrued and distributed between the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the participating franchises. The league is overseen by a Governing Council (GC). The members of the GC are appointed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board, which acts as the governing body.
As of the 2018–19 season, the league comprises seven franchises. Each squad competes against every other squad twice in the round-robin phase of the tournament, with the top 4 teams progressing to a series of playoff matches. These culminate in a title clash where the league winner is determined.
